HOW APERTURE WORKS

FROM A QUESTION TO A DECISION-READY FACTUAL RECORD.

  1. Tell us the decision problem. Explain the factual question, intended use, relevant jurisdictions and deadline.
  2. Acceptance and scope. We assess lawful use, jurisdiction, privacy, professional boundaries, conflicts, information security and specialist requirements. Substantive research begins only after the applicable acceptance controls have been resolved and the matter is permitted to proceed.
  3. Define the central question. The problem is reduced to a neutral factual question that can realistically be investigated.
  4. Identify the evidence that should exist. We determine what records could actually resolve the question.
  5. Find and test the sources. Relevant evidence is assessed for authority, provenance, date, completeness, independence and limitations.
  6. Build the factual record. Material information is organised so that the evidence can be tested rather than merely described.
  7. Test the conclusion. We actively look for contrary evidence, competing explanations and material gaps.
  8. Identify what can be relied upon. Findings distinguish established fact, attributed claims, findings, inference, dispute and uncertainty.
  9. Specialist escalation where required. Reserved legal, accounting, engineering, medical or other professional judgement remains with appropriately qualified professionals.
  10. Human review. Technology may assist. Human judgement approves external professional output.
  11. Delivery. The output is proportionate to the question and intended use.
  12. Update when reality changes. Material new evidence can justify monitoring or reassessment.
