Aperture grew from a way of thinking shaped as much by technology and entrepreneurship as by research.
Paul Hattingh spent much of his working life around technology, information systems, entrepreneurship and complex practical problems. Across very different environments, the same pattern kept appearing: important decisions were often being made on information that had been repeated, summarised or assumed, but not independently tested.
Aperture Research Works was built around that gap.
Paul brings a systems-oriented approach to evidence. He isolates the factual proposition that matters, traces the strongest lawful sources, tests competing accounts, identifies what remains unresolved and makes clear where specialist expertise is required. His background in technology and business also informs the way Aperture itself is designed: as a disciplined professional system rather than an open-ended research desk.
His work is particularly suited to matters that cross conventional professional boundaries, where corporate records, technology, financial representations, ownership, chronology, scientific material, regulatory history and public claims may all interact.
As founder and principal, Paul leads evidence strategy, complex research design, material client scoping, systems development, quality control and final human review. Technology can assist discovery, organisation and comparison, but professional judgement remains human and the final conclusion must stay within what the evidence supports.
His objective is straightforward: understand the system, isolate the proposition that matters, and establish what a decision-maker can responsibly rely on.

Xandro Hattingh
Xandro Hattingh works across commercial research, business development and the structured application of Aperture’s evidence methods.
His business-management background brings a commercial lens to the firm’s work: how organisations make decisions, what information is material to those decisions, how opportunity and risk are assessed, and what evidence would actually change the outcome.
Within Aperture, Xandro contributes to research structuring, market development, client communication, writing, publication and the development of new applications for the firm’s capabilities. His focus is not simply on producing more information, but on helping organise research around the facts that matter to the decision being made.
He also helps translate complex evidence capabilities into clear client-facing language and practical commercial use cases, while keeping protected internal methods out of public communication.
His role complements Paul’s broader systems and evidence leadership with a strong focus on commercial context, structured execution and the way clients actually use research in practice.

Paul Hattingh and Xandro Hattingh are co-creators and co-authors of the published Aperture verification framework. It describes a deterministic verification discipline for testing real-world claims against physical, logical and observable constraints before broader interpretation or probability is applied.
The framework is not presented as an artificial intelligence system. Aperture Research Works applies its governing principles through a human-controlled, human-reviewed evidence-assurance practice.
