Decision question

What has materially changed in Chile’s lithium policy and project environment?

What the public record supported

Corporate joint-venture formation, mining concessions, regulatory approvals, environmental permissions and actual production are separate evidence categories.

Material findings

  • Codelco announced formal creation of NovaAndino Litio with SQM in December 2025 for lithium activity in the Salar de Atacama, with a planned horizon to 2060. [L1]
  • Codelco subsequently announced the first board meeting of NovaAndino Litio on December 29, 2025. [L2]
  • SQM filed shareholder agreement and associated project documents in its SEC annual-report exhibits. Existence of documents is not proof of all downstream environmental permissions. [L3]

Documentary source references

Additional verification required before reliance

  • Specific salar, concession, entity and local permit files.
  • CEOL status, environmental impact decisions, consultations and litigation.
  • Production reports against announced capacity.
  • Public operator filings and regulator evidence.
  • Local stakeholders and right-of-reply requirements.

Boundaries

  • Atacama joint venture is not the same as the Maricunga project.
  • A state-private venture does not certify local water, environmental or indigenous engagement sufficiency.
  • Announced mineral resources and revenues must be assessed under their own definitions.

How this demonstrates Aperture capability

This demonstration shows how Aperture frames a decision question, traces material claims to external evidence, separates what is established from what remains uncertain, and keeps the reliance boundary visible. It is designed to demonstrate the research and evidence method rather than imply a client engagement.

Relevant buyer context: Mining, investment, supply-chain and strategy teams.

Scenario: Policy and project monitoring.
